Fatal Storm on Feb 17, 2006 - Crash Involving a Tanker Truck

Ontario Provincial Police have asked motorists to stay off highways 417 and 416.

Two major, multi-vehicle pileups have blocked the eastbound lanes.

Three people have been killed in a 20-vehicle pileup near Embrun, east of the city.

And just west of Arnprior, the highway is blocked by a crash involving as many as 30 vehicles, including a tanker truck.

Emergency workers on the scenes report people trapped in their vehicles.

Highway 17 between Renfrew and Pembroke has been closed because of ice on the road.

Driving throughout the region is treacherous, with ice, blowing snow and whiteout conditions because of the high winds.
