Formula One Racing President Sees Oil Crisis Ahead

FIA president Max Mosley has restated his view that Formula One should move towards a fuel efficiency formula and expressed his fear that a worldwide fuel shortage could lead to a ban on Formula One racing.

In an interview published in the UK’s Sunday Mirror newspaper Mosley said,

"Some time in the next few years we are almost bound to have a major oil crisis, for political reasons that have nothing to do with Formula One.

"When that happens all those politicians will say, 'We must show the public we are serious about fuel economy and we must stop Formula One'.

"There will always be politicians on our side but we need to arm them with good arguments.

"If all the research and development and engine work is on the cutting edge of fuel efficiency it would be much harder to argue against us."

President Mosley is a relatively new convert to the idea of energy efficient motor sport recently he revealed that a fuel flow valve and an alternative fuel such as an 85% bioethanol blend were under consideration by the FIA for future use in Formula One.

Motorsport Development UK’s Energy Efficient Motor Sport initiative has been promoting the use of alternative fuels in motorsport since 2003 and has had a research project underway with Ricardo Consulting Engineers since 2004 to develop a fuel flow valve system aimed at allowing cars using different types of fuel to compete on an equal terms.
